Does anybody have any idea if bleach would be detrimental to aluminum or human parts? As an electrolyte. crb

According to PH scale it has a rating of "10.0" I put a piece of aluminum set in a puddle of real weak solution and it's ok this morning. About 1/8th cup in a 1/2 gallon of water. Set for 20 amps. It still doesn't put out what I think it should. crb

Bleach, known to it's friends as Sodium Hypochlorite. Gives of various versions of chlorine gas. Chlorine was used in WWI as a poison gas. Here is the wiki on it. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Bleach#Chemical_interactionsBest not used. Dave (Manta)

I don't like Bleach at all.... it removes my fingerprints ON MY FINGERS too fast and that scares me! its very MEAN stuff.... about as bad as the Muratic acid I've used to clean cells... not something to play around with if you don't have to ...and certainly not on a constant basis....for me any way. ... seams to me we have already found a Perfect electrolyte and that's unsweetened Lemonade Koolaid it works great, stays clean and smells good too ! LOL ... its only draw back is it has less continuity in its mix than say KOH and because of this closer plate spacing is needed to get 20 amps or higher... but most of us are going with closer plate spacing anyway so Koolaid is the way to go, I think. ...that certainly doesn't mean "stop Looking" you never know, you may find a better electrolyte! Bob....

Bob,
re the koolaid,
If you remember I experimented using PLJ (Pure Lemon Juice) a short while ago. Well, the four jars of electrolyte at different strengths have sat on my window ledge for about a month. I discovered that there was a thick tundra like layer formed on top of all the jars except the one that had just water in it. This layer was in varying thicknesses and the thicknesses related to the strength of the electrolyte. I wonder if it was some kind of algae that had accelerated growth due to the high oxygen content in the jar.
Any ideas, and has anyone found this in their cells ?

LOL Well no.... I have no idea what the growth on the PLJ is... but betcha its not good! ....like digging out all your sandwich makings and finding green growth on your Baloney.... best not to eat it no matter how hungry you are! heheheheh ... what you have to worry about Manta is that After you take the lid off a container and something inside the Container jerks the lid out of your hand and puts it back on the container !... and then emits a low growl.... if that happens you might leave the containers alone and call animal control instead. ... just a suggestion... ... Bob...

probably a yeast formation, the plj should contain natural sugars, leading to fermentation. never saw this with k-aid. add a little sugar and I'm sure it would ferment.

Whatever it was it's down the drain now. Just hope it doesn't crawl back up the pipes while I'm in the shower. Dave (Manta)

OOOoooh Now that's a Scary thought ! Right out of the "Twilight Zone!" or perhaps a cheap "B" Horror movie ! LOL .... All Kidding aside.... wouldn't something that CAN'T FREEZE be better? like a 50/50 mix of Prestone antifreeze and Lemon aide ? ... we already know that Everclear and Lemon aid won't freeze but the Everclear needs Replenished fairly often and there's never any around when you need it ! LOL ... I think the Prestone Antifreeze would be better.... but I've never tried it in a cell and have no idea what gasses would come out of it.... probably some really nasty stuff ! and it may well coat the plates of the cell too.... something we can't have... but I do know the Antifreeze has a wetting agent in it to keep it in contact with the metal, that is a good thing and may well be just what we need for cell operation in cold climates.... and you wouldn't be tempted to drink your Cell's Electrolyte if ya got stuck in a snow bank either! HAHAHAHAHA .... Bob.......
