Has anyone used a dc to dc convertor on a generator cell.......i was looking at one a min ago.and it got the hamster wheel in head a'turnin

Input Voltage:  8 V to 14 V

Operating Temperature Range:  0 C to + 70 C

Output Current:  60 A

Output Voltage:  0.5 V to 2.75 V

are these reading stating that this thing can put out 2.75 volts dc while maintaining a max of 60 amp draw? or what?

heres the item i found   http://www.mouser.com/search/ProductDetail.aspx?qs=UrIO86Dvche%2fl7IaotDJmQ%3d%3d

I dunno what that is actually ... but I toyied with the idea of converting the 12vdc to 3vdc with a 4:1 transformer  hand wound... that would up the amprage by a factor of 4 minus the heat loss I think
... so it may indeed be a way to achieve the high amprage needed and give a side benifit of lower voltage so less heat is made ....
I dunno if it would work but I'm thinkin' it should !

i think that at that price i may go ahead and try one just to see if it works.may be possible to run a single cell at a high amprage like 40A to achieve the results of a combo cell @ 15 amps.

Bob,

afraid not.  Transformers only work with AC. It is the electro-magnetic collapse with each cycle  that does all the work. No collapse with DC.

I was thinking the other way around Manta so you have a step down in voltage not a step up...
and you are probly right on the transformer only working with AC and not DC.... I never tried a Transformer on DC so I dunno... a car coil works on DC but has to have the Collaps in order to trigger the Arc... so your probly right ! thank you... back to the drawing board on that idea ! HAHAHHA
