Well,  I managed to get enough Titanium sheet to make a start on my cell.

The picture below is what I have at the moment.  The round section stuff with the threads are 'pulled' tensile test pieces.  I thought that they may come in useful for making spacers etc.
I now need to work out the best cutting plan to maximise the number of plates I can get out of it.
I intend to use it as square (or rectangular) so as not to lose the available surface area.

Have to fit this in with my other activities and the occasional periods back at work.  But it will get made.
And will be know,  rather grandly.  as the Titan cell. Grin

use caution when cutting and drilling titanium, I've got friends that work for Boeing, they discovered a few years back that cutting, drilling titanium releases toxic matter and made people sick, they now do their cutting and drilling with the metal submerged. that being said if you don't want to risk it you can send what you got to me. hahahahaah

Yah ! looks like enough for a decent cell or two !
are you going to go DRY cell or wet cell ?
wet cells are better at using all of the plate area... but require holes!
...
I think I'd try my cut off abrasive saw on cutting that stuff myself ! but I know Jack---- about titanium ! LOL
....
it will be very interesting to see how the metal holds up under operation !
...
good luck to ya Manta ! get it built!

Randy,  Bob,

....they discovered a few years back that cutting, drilling titanium releases toxic matter and made people sick, ...

First I've heard of that.  We cut these test pieces up every day and no one has ever had any problems.  The weld test items are sheared to approximate size them cut to shape on a band saw. the final shaping is done by hand with files and emery tape.

The only material that we worry about is copper alloys containing Beryllium.  This stuff is highly toxic.

that was something I heard from a buddy at Boeing, but then their working with titanium all day every day. I'll get ahold of my friend and see if I can get any details. I'm very interested to see how the Titan does.

Hay Randy How is the dog food bowl container coming along ? I was thinking vinyl tubing sliced on one side fitted to the rim might work to seal it ... if those bowls have a rim... if their the type that go all the way to the floor I think your only hope is a rubber gasket cut to size and high temp silicone to hold it on and a bunch of bolts!
... if the bowls you chose are the type that bend at the top edge of the dish and go back to the floor  (like I was thinking above) you can use that to your advantage and cut the sides into strips and make cooling fins!
...
in case you need some really big pet dishes out'a stainless steel I saw some for horses at tractor supply.... just a big non tipping pet dish but it probably would hold a gallon with just one ...easy!
18" to 20" in diameter I'd guess !
...
I'm wore out , I just spent about 3 hrs on the tractor smoothing out a place for a trailer house to go ... its on a gentle slope and its taken me 3 or 4 days now to get it big enough... and half way level. !...I need a bigger tractor ! LOL !one with a backhoe on it! HAHAHAH !
...
looks like we're in for more rain Randy...batten down the hatches cuz here it comes!

Randy,

I'll be very interested to hear what you find out about working Titanium.  Maybe the problem is related to welding it.  I'll also look up the health and safety on this stuff.

Ok; just talked to Mark, guess there was no long term effects, just all the machinists in the area working with titanium developed a cough caused by the dust. they started working with more fluids to stop the dust from becoming airborn, everyone got better.
