I've been working on this Kitchen Remodel sense about November of 2010... its been 3 months now and I am almost done with the kitchen counter top.....progress is SLOW when you have to wait for parts!<GRIN>
but all in all its starting to take shape fairly nicely... at least the wife is happy and that is what I am after !
...
I started out by removing the old counter top because it was falling down in the corner...literally !
I patched that up, removed the old sink and put in the stainless steel sink we had saved for the task
and the new high rise kitchen fosset and spray hose that we had purchased about a year ago.
...I however haven't remembered to get the sink clips that hold the sink down to the counter top yet... I just can't remember them when I am in town ! LOL
...I pulled out the cook top the other day and am getting ready to paint it and put it back in...
I had to notch the marble tiles where the screws go to hold it down... that was a challenge!
but I got all the marble tiles down and the last little bit sealed tonight... so now I'm working on putting in some new plug in recipticals that the wife said she Had to have!  hehehehehe
... one thing for certain , I couldn't have done the tile counter top without the good tile saw
I told the wife I needed a tile saw and she said ok , lets go get one.... although she was thinking a $65.00 one I came home with the most expensive one they had at Harbor freight tools !... and boy am I glad I did ! it cut through that marble like it was butter!... and I swapped blades on it and was cutting wood for the shelves and stuff as well.... its a really good saw !
...
its kind'a funny... all my life I have had to "make DO" so "Jerry rigging" and short cuts have become a way of life for me, but I have tried real hard not to "Jerry rig" anything in the Kitchen!
and that's allot harder than it sounds ! LOL  .... I keep telling myself...  No Bob ! just get the right part for the job ! ...... and I have to admit the results are looking really nice !
,  and no Bailing wire anywhere either!  HAHAHAHAH!
...(well, so far.....)
...so far I think we have about $275.00 sunk into the kitchen, not counting the new Fosset sense we bought it a long time ago.... almost all of that is in the tile. but I have enough for the floor too
...
hehehehehhe

I bet there's some duct tape hiding in there somewhere.  lol
It's a great feeling when something turns out better then you expected, You stand back and look and think "Wow I did that" for me the next thought is "Wonder how that happened"

LOL Amen Randy !
I spent all evening yesterday hooking the stiff hard #10 gauge wire  ( all I had) to 4 outlets and tonight I just hooked them up...man am I glad thats done with.... although I have Lights that need to be wired up and a stove Hood... I WILL use smaller wire for that! Sheeeeeez!
....
This evening, I glued on some face tiles on the counter top to see if that idea is going to work....
and I dunno.... I'll let the wife decide on that'en! the Liquid Nails didn't hold the tiles like I had hoped... and I had to real quick add a screw under each tile and a wedge of wood to hold them in their proper place......  I didn't want to use mortar because I knew that wouldn't hold them up ... but the glue idea didn't either ! hehehehehhehehe!
...
oh well....
...
I'm hoping when its all said and done I can be proud of it all.... and not wonder why I didn't do something diferent!  LOL
....

I have found now that I have 2 carberators to pull off... one on the Quad/putt-Putt and the other on the garden tractor/mower....  I know whats wrong with the Putt putt..... I lost 2 o-rings on the electric jet the last time I took it off.... and I didn't notice at the time... aurgh!
now I'll have to find some somewhere!
... the garden tractor probably has dirt and or water in the carb is all there.... it should be easy to fix but hard as hell to get off ! ... LOL
...
I think I'll take the wife out to breakfast in the morning and we'll discuss a New Coumpound Miter saw .... HAHAHAHHAHAHA!
...
...

Well I got the counter top completely done now.... that's a relief !
now for the walls behind the counter top and at the end of the counter top.... we haven't decided what to do with them yet so I have a bit of a break.... unless I want to tackle the center island add-on !
... but its getting closer to being done !  LOL

I added a back-splash behind the cook top of the same tile that's on the sink top with a decorative band of glass tiles through the middle... it looks good.
I added /boxed in the end of the island and made 3 shelves and a door so we can toss can goods in there...
...I covered the back wall behind the sink with mortar as it was just too rough to do anything else with...it had the brick facing on it and it was a bugger to get off... I am sure the wife will want to paint it but at least it is better looking than it was!...
I have one more LARGE cupboard or shelf to make next to the cook top on the floor, and another slide out vertical drawer for supe cans or spices... as my wife says "you can't have too much storage!" ...
once that's done then I'll get to work on the pantry and open a hole in the wall of the living room/dining room... that should make a big difference in the way this place feels!
it will open it up allot !

its still quite touchy but I'm past the babying it stage just trying to live with the pain is all ! LOL
... strangely enough now its sleeping that is the biggest problem, laying down some times makes the rib go CRUNCH... and that wakes me up for a few hours don't ya know ! LOL
... if I could sleep on my back there'ed be no problems but I can't its stomach or side and on the one side its way to painful to even consider... so I don't sleep dat way any more ! LOL
... I was hauling a big heavy steel frame I made up out'a scrap steel to hold the air conditioner yesterday and discovered that lifting something heavy made the Rib pop too... so I rolled it for a ways then grit my teeth and hauled it the rest of the way hehehe then went and took a break !
... so No I havn't been taking it easy, too much to do around here for that! but as the
Doctor on HEE Haw says "if it hurts then don't do that!".... so I don't ! well, too much ! HAHAHAHHA
its getting better slowly....  it pops or crunches less and less frequently as time goes on...
it may take a few months to stop it completely ....minor details !
...
got the hole cut in the wall (on the inside) to move the air conditioner too... I'll cut the skin of the trailer later, just before I move it ...
but I got 4 shelves in the pantry now !  HAHAHAH!
I'm beginning to think this project will go on for ever! LOL

Bob,

The project may go on forever,  but you won't if you carry on like this.

Take a long break man.

Concentrate on what has to be done.  Not what it would be nice to do. The old 'need versus want' choice.

The kitchen can be done some other time.

LOL you mean like moving the air conditionier like I did at 5:00am this morning ? heheheh
yah it needed done sorry I waited till the hottest day of the year so far to do it though because we were without the cooler all day... but I have it in place now and will probably have water to it and all that before I sleep tonight.... its blowing right now and it helps allot ! Man it got Hot here today...107 deg in town, probably 105deg here or a bit less... too hot for me !
I had to resort to the garden hose and wet down a few times ! HAHAHAHA works wonders!
.... that Cooler being moved has been needed for a long time now, with it moved I can repair the roof and the support beams that support the roof.... its a varanda over the trailer on one side and a large room on the other, over the years it has fallen into ruin but I'm gaining on it and slowly coming out on top !... I have about 75% of it all done now so I feel purdy good about that.
...
Don't worry about me taking breaks Manta I do,... all too often LOL, but I know if I don't use it I'll loose it! and I'm too young for that to happen !  HAHAHAHAHHA!
when I was Younger I worked because I had to.... now that I'm older I work because I want to...
although the pay is poor at least it keeps me from becoming a couch potato !  HAHAHAHAHA!
...
... come to think of it ...when I was younger I worked because I had to,(eat to live) now that I'm older I work because I have to....(live to eat) its the reasons WHY that have changed ! LOL !

I hope it won't be like the last one we had.  It cost me most of my favourite plants.

I SUGGEST YOU TRANSPLANT them into big pots this fall.......or start building winter tents for them !
....
I can almost guarantee ya, all the Volcanoes that have gone off in the last year is the root cause of it... and the last time we had a group of volcanoes go off the following winter was COLD !

well, we finally got a small portion of the heat we usually get.... its been hot here... but nothing like it usually is yet.
triple digit temps for at least 6 weeks is the norm... sure it might dip below 100 for a day or two but then its right back up there with a vengeance ! ...not this year though !we had a week of over 100 deg and then a week of 90's  very strange weather ! way cooler than normal !but still too warm to do anything in the heat of the day ! LOL
...
I caught a washer and dryer on sale at lowes they were damaged and a returnbecauseit didn't work... the previous owner didn't take out the shipping bolts and wondered why it wouldn't work ! LOL
we got it for a fraction of the original cost and they already fixed it...
after a week of it setting in the laundry room I finally got it hooked up last night and washed a load of my dirty pants... no soap because it takes the new HD detergant ( low suds)... they came out cleaner than they ever have been and it used a fraction of the water the other one does ! ...and the dryer sings to ya when its done ! LOL ... its good to finally have a GOOD washer and dryer !
all these years its been something I've had to fight to keep working HAHAHAH!
... and I finally got another motorcycle !  I almost bought a Kawasaki ninja 250 about a week ago
road it in the parking lot, told him I'ed take it and then he said the wife said she didn't want to sell it !  Aurgh... so I got to looking at a XR650L Honda....1995  and the guy wanted 1000 bucks for it... drove about 80 miles 1 way to look at it and it wasn't running, hadn't ran in years and has been sitting for a good 3 years at least... I looked it over and I was impressed, it only had 6k miles on it and although it has been abused it looked in fairly good shape.
the guy lowered his price to $800.00 for it and I loaded it in the truck and came home with it !
...I discovered it had no oil in it, the engine has NO SPARK at all , and the battery does hold a charge....
after close inspection it looks to me like the ignition modual is ka-poot so I ordered a new one, about $139.00 to my door... should be here next week I hope.
the seat height is 37" on that monster ! and I'm rather short for that ! but there is a lower link that I can replace that will lower the seat height a bunch so I think I'll get it....
it hasn't been licensed in like 4 years and I want to get it running good before I get it re-licensed
.... it should be a great bike ! ....put the fun back into riding for me ! HAHAHHAHAHA
....I've always liked "THUMPERS"  and I've never had a 650cc thumper before ... its going to be a blast to ride that thing! HAHAHAHA!
...
obviously I haven't done too much on the kitchen in the past 2 weeks but I  haven't forgot it ! HAHAHAHAHAHA

With an outside air temperature of 100 F,  why do you need a drier ? In winter,  sure . Cheesy
