here is the tools and a list of programs that i have found so far for reading OBD-II / ALDL (obd-i)
I haven't tested all the links cause i copy pasted but there is some really good stuff here that i pulled off of a few sites
as for the 'paid' software, you can usually find it on www.isohunt.com for free (if you don't mind that kind of thing).

I'll be posting info on the ones i like and what info i can gather for myself.
