Trying a new tactic with my generator...

Howdy All...
This morning I was up at the crack of dawn so I desided to change the cell in the truck to a diferent wireing scheam....
I had it wired all 3 cells in series and the output was quite low... only running a max of 30 amps , that is hardly supprizeing....
...
so I changed it to 2 cells in parallel....
and flushed the COFFEE BROWN KOH out of the cell the best I could and added distilled water and fired up the truck and checked the amps... last time I did that with all 3 cells in parallel it pegged the meter with just distilled water !... but it was barely pulling anything, and sense the KOH had discolored on me I desided to go back to the Lemonaid Koolaid... instead... as I was pouring in the first pack the amp meter started to rise... when I finished the first pack of Koolaid it was at 14 amps !... I did not expect that !  after letting it set it climbed to 15 amps and then stayed there...
so I figured that was perfect...even if it was only 1 pack of Koolaid !
I ran down to the ranch and I tanked up at the same gas station where I did before and realised I forgot to reset the odometer! darn it! so I roughly figured it out in my head as being somewhere above 30MPG... not the best ... so this time I re set the odometer and we shall see when I go in again
the trafic was horrid comeing home and I got behind some grandpa that was doing 40 to 45mph tops for a goor 25 miles... till i finally got around him ....so my trip home's gas milage will probly not be the best ...
but the output of the generator looked fairly good still, a bit on the weak side but that was at 15 amps when I was looking... no doubt it increased much more when it finally warmed up and was drawing right at 30 amps.... so hopefully my next milage reading will be better!
this last one was nothing to write home about, and if my suspissions are correct the next good one will be right around 32 or 34mpg...if so the computer is playing me for a fool again and I'll have to do some changeing !

  You said Mike was getting 54mpg in his 4x4 toyota with a R-22 in it didn't ya ?
what does he have for cells and amprage to get that ?
I think you said he had 6 in there now, just like yours Right ?

Nope it's Matt & he's getting 43 mpg with 3 cells wired series, he's got a whole bunch of washers building a bunch more cells, not sure where he's at currently on the build.

Do you know if Matt has done the Air sensor Adjustment that I did or not ?
...I'm thinking of opening it up and going a bit further with it.

no he hasn't attacked that yet, he has a bypass ball valve on the air horn running into the air cleaner box. he can kill the engine with the valve.

Ahhhh ok so he went around the sensor like I was thinking of doing much earlier...
cool... evedently it works better than adjusting the sensor ! HAHAHAHHAA

I just took the Sensor up 2 more notches for a total of 4 from stock....
if that don't make a big diference I'll do what Matt did....

he's got a section of what I think is 1" hose with a ball valve inline going into the aircleaner box and into the big air transfer tube that runs across the front of the engine compartment, next time he comes up I'll get a picture, the thing is only a foot or two long.

Oddly enough I hace something like that already built in on my truck it goes to the exhost system I think...some sort of breather for the recurculateing system I guess... but the hose is already connected to the air box and passes right next to the big hose....HUMMMMM

its just a stock "Cow girls truck" ... <GRIN> it ain't a big'en by any means but I sure love that thing...specially sense it gets better gas milage now than the Toyota Cilica does that my wife drives ! HAHAHAHHAHAHAH
I had a 1972 Datsun P/U that was beat to death on the Ranch for about 10 years needless to say by the time I got it it was too dar gone to save so I traded it for a Yamaha 650cc twin HEHEHEHE
I expect after 10 years on the ranch this one will look about the same I suppose but at least I have it to do something with ! HAHAHAHHA

OK I made a "MATT Valve" !  HAHAHAHHAHAHA
its a metal garden hose shut off valve and a short hunk of garden hose screwed into it...
bored 2 holes , one in the big transfer pipe/air snorkel and the other in the top of the air box...
RTV siliconed the valve into the hole on the big tube and stuck the hose in the hole on top the air box and glued it... let it dry for about 6 hrs, fired the truck upand turned on the Hydroxy unit...
cracked open the valve and the engine slowed down opened it more and it threttoned to die...so I closed it a bit and left it that way... we shall see what it does tomorrow !

well the Wife took the truck to work tonight , said the front axels of the car are growling something terrably... looks like I got a job to do soon !
....
so I took an Old picture and drew in the hose and valve for ya so you can see at least where it goes...
the parts I used were just laying around here... a metal in-line water hose shut off valve ($1.29)
a 2ft hunk of old 5/8" garden hose ( free ) with a mail fitting on the one end to screw into the valve...
I screwed in the hose to the valve and then marked where I wanted it to be and then took the plastic tube off and went to the drill press and drilled the hole in it to match the thred size of the water valve... it was just a tad smaller so I had to screw it into the plastic for a good fit...
took off the air box top poked a hole for the hose to go in just snugly and then put it all back togather and glued the fittings with RTV silicone... after that dried I cracked open the valve just a bit and started the truck, let it warm up a bit and get off the high idle stage... and then opened the valve to alow air past the air sensor the RPM dropped on the engine, I played with it to see how far I could go with out killing th engine and wound up setting it at about 1/4 open and left it there, I ran to the Ranch and back and seamed to get realy good gasmilage but on the wayhome I had to turn on the lights because it was getting dark and desided to turn off the Hydroxyunit ...just incase it would draw too much with the headlights on and all that... ...
but on the trip down it seamed to use less gas than it ever has... I realy think this is the ansert to the Toyota R-22 engine... 
its simply a bypass valve to alow more air by the air sensor than it thinks it has... in effect makeing the engine run leaner...
seams to work good, I've no complaints thus far.... but only used it one trip !

Ok Something must be working good because I got 38mpg out of this tank full of gas and the wife emptied it to the half way mark before i got to drive it and turn on the Hydroxy generator....
...the only thing I've done diferent is add the "Matt Valve" and My milage went up a LONG way...
I think the hydroxy unit is only giveing me about a 5 to 8mpg gain at the moment
but I'm not real sure on that...  but to go from 32mpg to 38 is a purdy good jump for only running the Hydroxy generator 1/2 the milage... so I think Most of that gain was because of the Matt Valve and that would work when the Hydroxy gen is not on.......
so I ran the generator 4 of the 8 trips into town on that tank 45 to 50 miles one way was at 290 miles and it took 9.3 gallons ...or something like that.. I just guessed at the 38mpg  probly a bit lower than that but its close<GRIN>... if the gain is due to the Hydroxy unit being turned on then it realy helped allot hehehehe but I think it more likely that the gain is the Matt valve that effects the motor at all times and it probly raised the base gasmilage to 35mpg or so... which is actually GREAT!

I havn't messed with the valve on the Matt Valve much at all, infact I havn't touched it sense I set it
and I believe it can be adjusted leaner with no problem.

so so far the improvements to the truck have seamed to work good, I just wish I could get the Hydroxy generator to put out more than a Pittance ! ... looks like its back to about 1/2LPM to be honnest!
... and thats 2 Randy cells in parallel at 30 amps should be putting out about 2.5 to 4LPM

better tear them things down and see what's going on in there Bob, if you're wired parallel you should be kicking out over 2 LPM @ 30 amps, there's definately something wrong there. the stuff ya cleaned the cell with may have etched the shim material where it contacts the bolts loosing conductivity ?
