This is a Myth... You can use other metals  and many metals work far better than Stainless steel
at produceing Hydroxy gas...
THE PROBLEM is the formation of GOO from the metal !
and stainless steel leaches less into the water/electrolyte than any other meterial I've seen yet.
can you use other meterials ...Certainly
is it wise ...NO !
simply because it will take you weeks if not months to leach out all the oils and impurities out of other metals  and STILL you may wind up with goo formation.
...
so the conclusion is to ONLY use all stainless steel in the Hydroxy generator where the electrolyte will have contact.... doing other wize will invite goo formation...
...
I made 2 cells out of normal steel both worked but both produced less than their equivelant cell in stainless steel... and both made tons of green goo and even after weeks of running it a few hours each day  the goo still formed... I think you could get to the point that it would not produce any more goo
but it would take a long time and weeks of conditioning...
both of these cells made from regular mild steel slowly turned black... the equivelent of RUST in the electrolyte enviroment i think... so all in all normal steel is not adviseable...
...
so you can use other metals anything that will cary an electrical current... but not all metals are good in electrolyte !
...the best I've seen yet is High quality Stainless steel, even some of the lower quality stainless steels will give you goo and rust...my 305 shimstock rusted very badly in my "Randy cells"...
sogo for food grade or surgical stainless steel if you can ! you'll be glad you did !

Guys,
I've been looking at water Ionizers lately, being the health nut that I am, and they seam to use the same technology we do in the hydroxy generators. The top of the line ionizers use platium coated titinium. But they cost from $1,900 to $4,000 per unit. A few of the ionizers use what looks like a tero cell and these are the most expensive and they use 7 plates just like our beloved tero cell. I'd love to build one with those plates but I think the expense would be exorbant. They say they don't filter out the minerals since they want the minerals in the water so there must be something to the platinum coated titinium plates! Just Google 'Ionized Water' if you want to learn more about this. I did discover that Distilled water is de-mineralized since that is what happens when you distill with steam and also de-ionization processes.

Bob,
I grew up in PA and my buddies were building choppers back in the late 60's. They had to get a 'Re-Construction' Title from DMV to be able to license the bikes. Out there in CA there must be something like that with all the hot rods on the road. This might be a way to get around the unfair and stupid restrictions on vehicle modification. You just have to ask the right ? to the right person to get a reasonable answer. Goverment workers are the bottom of the sespool types usually and don't give a poop. You just have to keep at it till you overturn the correct rock. Here in AZ where I live up in the mountains we arn't required to get a smog check but we can carry our guns in the open without a permit too. But that might be all we'll be carrying if the Feds get their way and take the amo away.

I hope the feds don't get that law passed, but if they do, I'll be a criminal.  The first person to question it will be a dead law-abider.

Tink ....time to go black power rifle and make your own black powder or make your own shells and stock up on gun powder !
...I havn't hurd of anything even remotely close to taking away the ammo....
the very thought around here would raise a ruckus Indeed ! and rightly so !
.... their probably pushing for automatic weppon ammo control  to make it harder for the Druggies to get it.... but you know as well as I do that there is an automatic weppon for every caliber out there...if you just happen to find one that isn't an automatic  give them a week and they'll make it one !
heheheheh
....
I won't say I'll shoot the first person that tries to take away my guns because I think its coming....... but I will Not be wepponless in this socioty.... I have a Balista that will fire a 3/4" arrow through a car ...that should stop'em ! HAHAHHA
...
Bob......

my Kim said if they take away ammo just make a nail gun... supersonic 9" nails !
I LOVE IT ! HAHAHAHHAHAH

What seams to be happening is the amo makers are letting their supplies run down so they won't have to destroy it all when the feds require all amo to be serialized. This seams to be the reason the more popular amo is getting real hard to get. Have you tried buying 9mm or 223 or 7.62mm lately?

nope not me...but 12guage 00,00 buck was hard to find about 2 years ago
I wanted single 00, but not a single place had that...and when one guy told me the price I said, thats ok I'll take the double Ott.... thank ya !
it was like $20.00 for only 5 dumm dumms.... although one will stop a 500lb bear at 30 yards so will double ott...but its allot messier ! HAHAHAHAHA
.... I like my explodeing arrows though , a shotgun shell on a compound bow makes for a good Rambo Movie stunt ! ....but you have to hit something solid.... hitting the soft ground don't count !... its extreamily hard on target arrows though...
ya go through allot of arrows quick doing that !hehehehehe
....
little wonder I had a bad rep with Arrows as a kid ...even my CB handle was "Broken Arrow" ! HAHAHA...My Dad saw to that !....Son where's all my target arrows ?
OOOOOPS!

At walmart here their shelves are half empty or worse. I'm going to Andy's Amo on Monday to get some 30-30's. At wallmart they have good deals on black powder guns and stuff but that is seasonal in the fall. I always wanted to get into black powder, now i think I will. There are a lot of 'Mountian Men' doing black powder up here. These  guys are fanatics about it.

Yup,yup ! Actually I'ed rather hunt with a 50cal Hawkins than a 30-06 !
the knock down power is about twice that of a 30-06 and once down they don't get up !
... My Dad had a 30-30 many years ago and shot a buck 5 times through the hart and each time the dear got up and ran away... he sold the gun shortly there after and got a 30-06...his next deer was a one shot kill...
at one time I had a raft of black powder guns but I sold them all to a friend of mine when I moved to Florida from Reno Nv.... and I've kicked myself in the butt everysense for getting rid of the black powder stuff !
CVA.com has a wide selection of black powder stuff and at one time they carried Kits... and that is what I bought ...all Kits... I would dearly love to get a 69cal smothe bore Kintucky rifle one of these days as I understand they are just as accurate as the rifled 50 and 58 cal Hawkins but hit like a truck !
... above all they are just super fun to plink cans with !.... I don't hunt animals anymore just hunters that come on my property ! <GRIN> but I do understand the thrill of the hunt and all that...I just love animals too much to kill them anymore ! hehehehehehe (regardless, if they taste good!)
if you google black powder you'll get a list of suppliers a mile long !
...
with My black powder Hawkins 50cal I alwayse had my black powder civil war revolver that was 41 cal. 6 shot... a very nice gun indeed...
I discovered that the German precussion caps were the best, and shot many a round through all the guns... but my favorite was the 50cal Hawkins with the hair trigger set ! Loved that thing!...with open sights I was as accurate as with my 30-06 with a 3x9 scope on it !... but only to about 1000 yards... after that its just too darn small to see ! HAHAHHAHAHA
I did quite a bit of hunting in my younger years but not any more..
