Been busy as of late guys !

Hay All !
I've been busier than a frog in a frying pan lately... for the past 2 weeks I have had to go into town every day of the week but sunday and monday...(my wifes days off and I stay home then if at all possable)
although I havn't got allot of work done at the ranch it sure feels like I have worked my butt off.... hehehehe
I mentioned that I got the Mercadies working for my Sister the other day, well it WAS working
and she drove it up here to give it a good run/test and she arrived fine and had no truble with it at all... she left to go back to the ranch and promptly returned and said she couldn't shift out of 4th.... and man she was right ! it was stuck in 4th gear and NOTHING I tried would get it out of gear... I could smell the clutch so I know she had to slip the clutch allot to get it back to the house ! (not good at all!)... finally I took the shifting mechnisum off the Hump in the car and tried working it back and forth and finally it popped out and worked like there was never a problem with it !
and I put it back togather and could not get it to Jam up again ! so I sent her home and she made it fine with no problems at all....but I am scared that it will jam up again without it being fixed !...so I am back to running her to and from town when she needs to go in !
...I know it will do it again as this is the 2nd time its done it.... and all I've been able to do is Un stick it when it got stuck... and this last time was a real bear to get un stuck
...
I'm afraide the car is wore out , but she loves the car and wants to get it fixed but I'm thinking it will cost more than the car is worth... I think it needs Rings and I realy don't know what to make of the trans locking up.... and it smokes fairly bad....
it is a 1976 240D Mercadies 4door sadan...and has over 500k miles on it...
She is of the mind that if it costs $2000 to fix its worth it... and I have to agree but I seriously doubt anyone will touch it for less than $6000 to fix all it needs !
...
if any of you people have any dealings with older Mercadies cars I'ed sure like to hear about it.... my experience with this car is very limited...
I think the rings are weak, the pump and injectors need the "NEW Diesel" O-rings put in it.
and then there is the transmition problem and I am guessing its probly the shifting forks or the shifting mechnisum that needs replaced.
....
needless to say I've had allot on my mind lately and its getting in the way of Hydroxy building! HAHAHAHHAHAHA
...Hope you guys are fareing better than I in that respect!

Hay Bob!
Are you sure there is enough fluid in that tranny? Sounds like what I went throu with my Toyota a few years ago. I had the tranny rebuilt and they didn't put enough fluid in it so it only lasted 22,000 miles (2,000 miles over the waranty) so they wouldn't fix it without charging me $1,000 so I got one out of a wrecked Toyota for $750 and had another mechanic do the job. He said it only had 1/2 the amount of fluid and buned up. There was no sign of leaking at all!
Just a thought,
Tink

Howdy Tink !
good to hear from ya !
Actually No...I'm not sure that there is ANY fluid in that tranny , come to think of it!
and it does sound mighty noisy ! I betcha' its bone dry after setting for 7 years !
THANK YOU ... I'll pull the plug on the side of that thing and see if there is any ! HAHAHHA
... obviously thats a realy good indicator when the thing fails to shift ! that things ain't slideing very good in there... heheheh didn't think of that ! should have...but didn't !
I told Sis to take it down and have its trans and rear end checked cuz they sounded purdy noisy and she said her other mercadies sounds the same way ! ...( bet its low on gear oil too!)
hehehehhehe
