Now that's interesting,a govt.generator for sale.Says it uses calcium hydride charge, that the same as what we
're using only with a different name?It didn't say anything about voltage or output.

I was reading about the Randy cell and knew I had seen ss shim stock cheaper than the prices shown. Check McMaster Carr. I found 316 ss sheets, 8" X 12", 0.010 thick, pn: 2317k17 for $12.81 per sheet plus shipping. Should be able to get a lot of shims out of 1 sheet.

They also have a variety of ss washers that might make it even easier. Not sure but I believe a #12 shim washer would have to thread on a 1/4" bolt so that might work too. A package of 50 was $12 or $13.

hg2,

Back when we had a DRMO here we would get on that site and search for things we were in need of.  Once we found it we would go down and lay claim to it.  DRMO has since been centralized, but the site is still the same.  I once went down there and ganked an alternator for my HMMWV so we could go out the door.  Stupid alt went out and none were on hand.   Angry

Anyhow, once it's decided that no other unit has a need for certain items, they are auctioned off to the public for reconciliation of funds.  It beats sending everything to the scrap yard.

Doesn't the 302 and 304 ss have too much carbon and impurities in it to be an ideal stainless for cell construction.

I dunno hg2  ...does it ?
I figure any metal will leach out imputities at first... its a given...
never thought about buying metal with the idea of not having to condition it... i just figured I had to anyway ! HEHEHEHE
for the cost difference though I'll use the 304   and condition the plates myself ...$8.98 for a 12"x12" instead of $21.09 for the same size seams a bit high to me !  it was something like that ...almost 3 times the price !
