Baking Soda

I read on the "Smack booster" site that he recomends using Baking soda !....
well to be fair that was a post about 3 years old and he sense then recomends KOH
but never the less I tried Baking soda in my first cell and had to dump it all out and wash it real good to try and clean the green goo out that formed from the salt in the baking soda...
 it did make Hydroxy gas however but it almost destroyied the cell in the proccess
... so DON"T USE baking soda OR anything with salt in it( sodium!)
drain cleaners have Sodium Hydroxide.... don't use it !
use Potassium Hydroxide (KOH)
or Lemon aid Koolaid ( no I'm serious Koolaid works good and stays clean!)
Vinegar also works fairly good as well
...
however Koolaid and Vinegar are both rather weak electrolytes and if you have wide plate spacing you will more than likely need KOH to get a high enough conductivity in the water to draw enough amps to make your cell operate correctly
